If you'd told Richard at the time of life when most people are forging a career that he would eventually be an astrologer he would have expressed complete astonishment!

He was brought up to believe, implicitly if not explicitly, that astrology and other so-called 'occult' practices were at odds with Christian beliefs, and that he still held on to this while he was by now more at the periphery of church life. His resistance to astrology crumbled as he was told how his birth chart described his early childhood life, his difficulties in growing up, his problems in finding a career that he liked, relationship problems and the like, and also the good traits that he has and how he could bring them out.

Richard soon wanted to be able to understand all areas of astrology for himself, and began attending seminars by Liz Greene and her tutors at the Centre for Psychological Astrology, soon enrolling on their 3-year course, in which he received a Certificate in 1997.

He doesn't see the primary role of astrology to be that of prediction, but, rather, of insight leading to action which brings about change for the better in those who seek help in their lives. He believes there's no point in predicting the future unless you can change something thereby.
